Why Are Check Valves Important in Plumbing?

2024-10-15

‌Check valves are very important in pipelines because they prevent the backflow of media, protect system equipment and maintain system pressure. ‌The design principle and installation method of check valves are crucial to ensure the normal operation of the pipeline system.

‌Check valves

The main functions of check valves include:

‌Prevent backflow: Check valves have only one flow direction, flowing along the direction of the water inlet, to prevent water from flowing back. When the inlet pressure is greater than the sum of the weight of the valve disc and its flow resistance, the valve is opened; conversely, the check valve is closed when the medium flows back.

‌Prevent pump and drive motor from reversing: Since the check valve works automatically, the valve disc opens only under the pressure of flowing in one direction. When the liquid flows in the opposite direction, the fluid pressure and the deadweight of the valve disc cause the valve disc to act on the valve seat, thereby cutting off the flow.

‌Increase system pressure: Check valves are used to increase the pressure in the pipeline, which can exceed the system pressure provided by the auxiliary system to prevent accidents.
